Science Show and Tell

SCIENCE SHOW-N-TELL
Thursday, October 4

In Science, we are learning to use our senses to describe physical properties. This week, we will be exploring texture. It is important for students to have real experiences rather than just talking about them or looking at pictures. Providing this real experience at home and then sharing it with their classmates at school will help them make better connections. Texture is an observable property that can be used to describe how something feels. For show-n-tell, your child may bring something(s) that are:
·       Rough
·       Smooth
·       Bumpy
·       Hard
·       Soft
·       Fluffy
·       Ridged
·       Grainy
·       Powdery
·       Satiny
·       Scratchy
Help your child be prepared to share the texture of the object they bring from home. If you have any questions, let me know.

Sesame Street Live : Elmo Makes Music Tickets

Mark your calendar for this once-in-a-lifetime event--monsters becoming musicians! Elmo, The Count, Cookie Monster, Big Bird, Bert & Ernie and all their funny and furry friends are taking to the stage to share the magical world of music with children. When Jenny, the new Sesame Street music teacher, moves into town, her instruments get lost. Jenny's new Sesame Street friends quickly come to her rescue, and they all discover "instruments" that they never knew existed...rubber duckies, trash can lids and even their own laps! The characters teach children, and themselves, that everyone has the ability to make beautiful music, whether they realize it or not. Don't miss this opportunity to count along with The Count, visit Elmo's World and do the Crumb-A-Rumba with Rosita and Cookie Monster at Sesame Street Live "Elmo Makes Music."

Book of Signs

Dear Parents,

Next week, your child will be making a book of signs at school. They will be allowed to use different forms of media. Your child can draw the traffic signs. You may look for signs on the internet and print them at home. You can even take your child around the neighborhood and take a picture of your child with traffic signs. If you choose to send traffic signs/ media with your child, they need to be at school by Wednesday, January 25. Some traffic signs we will be learning about are: stop sign, yield sign, speed limit signs, railroad crossing signs, traffic light, one way signs, street name signs, crosswalk signs, fire station signs, and hospital signs. Make this as fun and as creative as you wish. The working at home part of this assignment is completely optional. Your child will be creating the BOOK at school during class time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher,

Learning is fun!!!

Polar Express Train Parade!

Dear Parents,

For this month’s family project, we are asking that you and your child create a train car for the polar express. We will be having a Polar Express Train parade throughout the school. To make their train car, you will need an empty box big enough for your child to stand in (see below). Then you will need to cover the box and decorate your train car. Attach straps for your child to carry their train car in the parade. Some ideas to cover your box are, use wrapping paper, construction paper, Christmas placemats or even a Christmas table cloth. You can use whatever you like to decorate. Below are examples of some pictures of a Polar Express train parade at other schools.  Please send your child’s train car on Thursday, December 15. We look forward to seeing everyone’s fabulous train cars on Polar Express Day!

Thanks,
GFAA Kindergarten Teachers
