Book of Signs

Dear Parents,

Next week, your child will be making a book of signs at school. They will be allowed to use different forms of media. Your child can draw the traffic signs. You may look for signs on the internet and print them at home. You can even take your child around the neighborhood and take a picture of your child with traffic signs. If you choose to send traffic signs/ media with your child, they need to be at school by Wednesday, January 25. Some traffic signs we will be learning about are: stop sign, yield sign, speed limit signs, railroad crossing signs, traffic light, one way signs, street name signs, crosswalk signs, fire station signs, and hospital signs. Make this as fun and as creative as you wish. The working at home part of this assignment is completely optional. Your child will be creating the BOOK at school during class time. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher,

Learning is fun!!!

Focus Letter Oo

Next week, GFAA Kindergarten will be focusing on the letter Oo. Here are some ideas of things you can do at home.
  • Make a list of as many words as you can that begin with the letter Oo.
  • Scavenger Hunt: Look through your home for things that begin with Oo. For example: oranges, oven, ovals.
  • Play Old Maid card game or Operation game.
  • Have a snack of oatmeal cookies, Oreos, Cheerios, olives.
  • Read books and learn about the ocean and ocean animals. Write about some of the interesting facts you learned.
  • List as many opposites as you can.
  • Draw a picture and write about an overnight trip you have taken.
  • Read a book about owls and write some interesting  facts about them.
  • Make “Octopus Hot-dogs” - Take a hot dog and cut a + from each end towards the center. DO NOT cut completely to the center. Place the cut hot dog into boiling water for a minute or two and the ends will curl up and the hot dog will resemble an Octopus.
  • Play an Over and Under relay race.
  • Science Experiment with Oil: Put some water in a glass. Add some cooking oil. What happens to the oil?  The oil floats on top of the water because of two basic characteristics. First, Oil is less dense than water. Second, oil does not mix with water. It is possible to disperse oil in water for a short time by shaking the mixture vigorously. When the shaking stops, however, the oil runs together and floats back to the top.
  • Make freshly squeezed orange juice and an omelet for breakfast.
Have some OUT of this world fun.
